Designing a Utility Cart

The summer leading into my undergraduate senior year I took part in an undergraduate research program known as TURC.  As the senior member of a team of 5, I led two unique design projects from design to delivery.

For one, our customer was a local entrepreneur that used a folding utility cart with detachable baskets to transport groceries and similar items from her car to her assisted living apartment. She'd recieved extensive interest in her product from peers and hadn't found any products in the market that fit her her use case. The design she used was put together by a relative but was bulky, heavy, and not suited for mass manufacture. Our team was tasked with designing a new version of her cart that improved the product and could be mass produced by a manufacturer.

Over two months, our team iterated to a design the customer was excited about. We then worked together to manufacture a prototype for final presentation. The gallery below shows the design and final product delivered to the customer.
